Tim Cook reckons that wearable tech is "incredibly interesting", but he doesn't think Google Glass will appeal to everyone.
Speaking at the All Things D Digital Conference, Cook hinted at the existence of the rumoured iWatch and dissed the likely popularity of Google's foray into wearable technology.
"I'm interested in a great product. I wear glasses because I have to. People generally want glasses to reflect their fashion, style, etc. So this is difficult from a mainstream point of view," he said. "I think the wrist is natural. I think there are other things in this space that could be interesting.
"There are lots of wearables, but of the ones doing more than one thing, I haven't seen anything great out there. Nothing that will convince a kid that's never worn glasses or a band to wear one*."
He added that the market was "ripe for exploration", but refused to definitively confirm whether or not there would be an iWearable gizmo in the near future.
"I don't want to answer that one," he said, "but it could be another branch of the tree."
In typical Apple form, that wasn't the only product question Cook dodged. When asked about TV, the fruity chief said he didn't want to go into detail but agreed that there was a "grand vision".
He also said that despite the fall in the firm's stock price and market concerns that Apple couldn't pull any new rabbits out of the hat, the company was still capable.
"We have some incredible plans that we have been working on for a while… we have several more game changers in us," he claimed.
On the subject of that pesky stock price, he said that the fall was "frustrating" for everyone at Apple, but put it down to "cycles" in the market. ®
* (Sub-ed: Cook is clearly not aware of an entire generation of hipsters with 20/20 vision currently wearing non-prescription, clear-lensed retro glasses. Ironic, since there are many in Cupertino, and we don't doubt quite a few of them work at Apple...)
